About the Marrakech to Chefchaouen Transfer

Chefchaouen — Morocco's famous "Blue City" — is nestled in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco, approximately 670 km from Marrakech. The drive takes around 7 hours 30 minutes via the A7 motorway north through Casablanca and Rabat, then the N1/N2 into the forested Rif highlands.

This is one of Morocco's longest intercity transfers, but travellers who make the journey almost universally agree it is worth it. Chefchaouen's medina is one of the most distinctive and beautiful in the world: narrow cobblestone alleys painted in dozens of shades of blue and white, terracotta pots overflowing with flowers, and the scent of cedar wood from the nearby forests. The city sits in a valley between the Jbel Tisouka and Jbel Megou peaks, which are visible from much of the medina.

This is a private, door-to-door transfer. We pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech and drop you at the entrance to the medina or your riad in Chefchaouen. Due to the narrow streets, cars cannot always enter the medina itself — your driver will drop you as close as possible and direct you to your accommodation.

Practical Travel Tips: Marrakech to Chefchaouen

Departure time: For this long journey, depart by 6:00–7:00 AM. This gets you to Chefchaouen by early-to-mid afternoon, giving you time to settle in and explore the blue alleys before the afternoon light fades.

Consider breaking the journey: Many travellers choose to stop overnight in Rabat or Fes en route. This makes for a more relaxed experience and lets you see two cities in one trip. We can arrange multi-leg transfers for multi-day itineraries.

What to see in Chefchaouen: The central Plaza Uta el-Hammam with its terrace cafes and 15th-century kasbah is the social hub. Spend time getting lost in the blue alleyways of the medina. Climb to the Spanish Mosque above the town for panoramic views. Walk to Ras El Maa waterfall, where locals do laundry in the rushing stream just minutes from the town centre.

Continuing north: Tangier is 3 hours from Chefchaouen, Fes is 3 hours southeast. We can arrange onward transfers from Chefchaouen to anywhere in Morocco.

Our fixed price starts at €250 per vehicle for a sedan (1–4 passengers). Per-vehicle, not per person. Contact us for van or minibus rates for larger groups.
The blue tradition is thought to have been introduced by Jewish refugees from Spain in the 15th century, with some accounts suggesting it is linked to the colour of the sky and heaven. Today, the blue medina is one of the world's most photographed urban landscapes.
A brief stop in Rabat is possible on the way — it adds about 30–45 minutes. A stop in Fes would require a significant detour. Most travellers prefer to travel directly and visit these cities separately.
Cars cannot enter the pedestrian medina itself. Your driver will drop you at the nearest entrance point to your riad, typically a 2–5 minute walk from most accommodations. Your driver will give you directions.
