Depart Marrakech early morning and cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass (2,260m) — one of Morocco's most spectacular drives. Stop at the UNESCO World Heritage kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, Morocco's most iconic fortified village featured in Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Continue to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa", visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the famous Atlas Film Studios. End the day in the Dades Gorge, where dramatic red canyon walls rise above a lush palm valley.

Morning walk in the Dades Gorge before heading east through the Valley of Roses — famous for its annual rose festival and argan cooperatives. Enter the dramatic Todra Gorge, where 300-metre-high orange limestone walls narrow to a 10-metre passage with a river running through. Continue across the Tafilalt plains to Merzouga. At the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, board your camel for a sunset ride deep into the Sahara to reach your private desert camp. Dinner under a sky blazing with stars — one of the most memorable nights in Morocco.

Wake before dawn to climb the dunes and watch the Saharan sunrise — a golden spectacle as the first light hits Erg Chebbi's 150-metre dunes. Return to camp for breakfast, then depart. Choose to return via the southern route through Skoura oasis and the Draa Valley for a different landscape, or retrace the scenic northern route past Ouarzazate. Arrive back in Marrakech by early evening, with memories of the world's greatest desert firmly in place.
