Day-by-Day Program
Your private driver meets you each morning. All stops are flexible — this is your trip.
Depart Marrakech early morning and cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m) — one of Morocco's most spectacular drives, passing through Berber villages with sweeping mountain views. Descend into the pre-Saharan south and stop at Aït-Ben-Haddou, the UNESCO-listed mud-brick ksar used as a set for Gladiator, Game of Thrones and The Mummy. Continue to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa" — visit the Taourirt Kasbah and, if you wish, the Atlas Film Studios before settling in for the night.
Head south along the Draa Valley — Morocco's longest river valley, flanked by a continuous corridor of date palms and ancient kasbahs. Stop at Agdz for the panoramic view over the palmery and its hilltop kasbah. Continue through rose-pink villages and mud-walled ksour to Zagora, the gateway to the desert, 52 days by camel from Timbuktu according to the famous sign. In the afternoon, explore the Tinfou dunes on the edge of Zagora and enjoy a camel ride at sunset. Spend the night in a desert bivouac under a sky full of stars.
Wake before dawn to watch the Saharan sunrise over the dunes — one of Morocco's most magical moments. After breakfast, pack up and begin the return journey north. Choose to stop at M'hamid El Ghizlane (the true end of the road and edge of the open desert) or explore the Draa palmeraie further on the way back. Return to Marrakech by evening, passing through Ouarzazate and over the Atlas for a final view of the mountains.

Frequently Asked Questions
Zagora is 360km from Marrakech (around 3 hours closer than Merzouga). Its dunes — the Tinfou dunes — are smaller than Erg Chebbi but genuine Sahara sand, perfect for a shorter trip. Merzouga has the iconic 150m dunes and is better for a full desert immersion over 3–5 days.
Yes — M'hamid El Ghizlane is 98km south of Zagora and the true end of the road. The dunes there (Erg Chegaga) are more remote and dramatic. We can add a half-day or full day to M'hamid with a 4×4, highly recommended for those who want to go deeper into the desert.
Most camps near Zagora have patchy 4G signal from Maroc Telecom. Further from town, signal drops. We recommend downloading offline maps and informing family before departure. Your driver carries a local SIM with reliable coverage.
October to April is ideal — cool clear days (15–22°C) and cold starry nights. March–April adds Draa Valley blooms. Summer (June–September) reaches 45°C in Zagora and is not recommended. The Atlas pass can have snow in Jan–Feb but usually stays open.
