Rabat is Morocco's capital and a UNESCO World Heritage City — a surprisingly relaxed and elegant city, far less hectic than Marrakech or Casablanca. It lies approximately 340 km north of Marrakech, about 3 hours 30 minutes by private car via the A7 motorway north to Casablanca, then the A1 motorway continuing to Rabat.
The drive is straightforward, almost entirely on motorway, through Morocco's agricultural heartland. You pass Casablanca on the bypass before reaching Rabat, which sits where the Bou Regreg river meets the Atlantic — giving it a coastal setting unlike any other Moroccan capital city.
This is a private, door-to-door transfer. Your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech and drops you directly at your accommodation in Rabat, at the train station, or at any address in the city.
Not included: Return trip (book separately), guided tours, entrance fees, meals.
Departure time: Depart by 7:00–8:00 AM to arrive in Rabat by mid-morning, giving you the full day to explore. Alternatively, an afternoon departure (2:00–3:00 PM) avoids morning rush hour around Casablanca and arrives in Rabat in the early evening.
What to see in Rabat: The Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V are Rabat's iconic landmarks. The Oudayas Kasbah — a blue-and-white fortified quarter overlooking the Atlantic at the river mouth — is one of Morocco's most photogenic spots. The Chellah ruins (Roman and Merinid, with resident storks) and the pedestrian-friendly Mohammed V Avenue are also worth exploring.
Continuing north: Fes is 2 hours from Rabat via the A2 motorway. Chefchaouen, the famous Blue City, is about 3.5 hours north. We can arrange multi-city itineraries combining Rabat with Fes or Chefchaouen on the same day or over multiple days.
