Day-by-Day Program

Your private driver handles every transfer. All stops, detours and pace are entirely up to you.

Day 1Marrakech → OuarzazateTizi n'Tichka · Aït-Ben-Haddou

Head south from Marrakech over the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m) — the highest paved road in North Africa, winding through Berber villages and dramatic Atlas scenery. Descend to the pre-Saharan south and stop at Aït-Ben-Haddou, the UNESCO-listed ksar that served as the set for Gladiator, Babel and Game of Thrones. Arrive in Ouarzazate — the Film City of Africa — for an evening stroll along the kasbah and dinner under the stars.

Day 2Ouarzazate → Draa ValleyWorld's longest palmeraie

Drive south through the Draa Valley — a 200km ribbon of date palms and Berber ksars following the Draa river. Stop at Agdz for its weekly market and the viewpoint above the valley, visit the historic Tamnougalt ksar and continue through the palm groves to the fortified town of Zagora. The valley light in the late afternoon is extraordinary — orange mud walls, green palms and the Atlas behind you.

Day 3Zagora → M'hamid → SkouraDesert dunes · Rose valley

Early morning drive further south to M'hamid el-Ghizlane — the last town before the Sahara. Walk among the Erg Chegaga foredunes and watch the light change on the sand. Return north through the Draa and cut east toward Skoura — the rose valley, famous for its ancient kasbahs and palmeraie. Visit the Amridil Kasbah and the rose-water cooperatives. Stay overnight in a traditional kasbah hotel.

Day 4Skoura → Dades GorgeValley of Roses · Stone canyon

Drive through the Valley of Roses (Kelaat M'Gouna) — in April the whole valley turns pink with Damask roses used for Morocco's famous rose water and perfumes. Continue to the dramatic Dades Gorge, a winding canyon of red-ochre rock formations. Walk the canyon floor in the afternoon, then climb the switchback road above the gorge for the panoramic viewpoint at sunset. Overnight in the gorge at a cliff-edge guesthouse.

Day 5Dades → TaroudantAnti-Atlas · Walled city

Cross the Tizi n'Test pass or head west through the Anti-Atlas mountains toward Taroudant — a beautifully preserved walled Berber city often called "Little Marrakech." Stroll the ochre ramparts, explore the souk and the argan oil cooperatives. Taroudant sits in the fertile Souss Valley surrounded by orange groves and is far less touristed than the imperial cities.

Day 6Taroudant → AgadirAtlantic coast · End of tour

Short drive west from Taroudant to Agadir — Morocco's main Atlantic resort city. Walk the Agadir Corniche along 10km of Atlantic beach, visit the reconstructed Agadir Oufella Kasbah for the panorama and end the tour with fresh seafood at the port. Drop-off at Agadir airport or hotel. Return transfer to Marrakech available on request.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Zagora as good as Merzouga for the desert experience?

Zagora is more accessible and the Draa Valley route is arguably more beautiful than the Merzouga approach. The dunes near Mhamid are smaller but less touristed. If your priority is big Sahara dunes, Merzouga is the better choice (see our 5-Day Desert Tour). Zagora is ideal if you want the full Draa Valley experience alongside the desert.

What is the best time of year for this tour?

March to May is outstanding — the Dades Valley fills with roses, spring wildflowers appear in the desert and temperatures are ideal. October and November are equally good. Avoid July and August when the pre-Saharan south reaches 40°C+. Winter (December–February) is surprisingly cold at night but beautiful with clear skies.

Can the tour end in Marrakech instead of Agadir?

Yes — we can return to Marrakech on day 6 via the Tizi n'Test pass (a spectacular alternative to the Tichka) instead of going to Agadir. Or we can reverse the route and start in Agadir/Marrakech. Let us know your end point when booking.

When is the Rose Festival in Kelaat M'Gouna?

The Roses Festival (Fête des Roses) is held each year in early May — usually the first weekend of May — when the Damask rose harvest is at its peak. The whole valley is perfumed, and there are music, dance and rose-water celebrations. If you want to time your visit, book early as accommodation fills fast during the festival.
